Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

The Aurora Public Library’s Eola Road Branch will host a new coding club for young ladies in the sixth through twelfth grades.

Courtesy of the Girls Who Code organization, Aurora Public Library will host a weekly coding club throughout the school year. Girls Who Code is an organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in the field of technology. Since its founding in 2012, Girls Who Code has taught more than 40,000 girls in 50 states, and has partnered with hundreds of schools, libraries, and other learning institutions. Girls Who Code provides the tools for other organizations to form clubs that teach girls valuable coding skills that will help them in the increasingly tech-focused job market.

The Girls Who Code club will begin on September 6 and meet every Wednesday for the rest of the school year (excepting holidays). The club will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eola Road Branch, 555 S. Eola Road, Aurora.

Registration for this event is very important. Registration may be accomplished on the library’s website at aurorapubliclibrary.org or by calling the library at 630-264-3400. The library has a set number of computers that attendees may use, so it’s essential for the library to know how many registrants will be able to supply their own laptops. Registration will close and no new members will be admitted after the September 27 meeting.
