Do you have an ear for storytelling, an eye for design, or coding chops? Do you love games or playful interventions? This event includes an introduction to games for social change, conversations with mentors in the field, and meeting like-minded Emersonians! Get ready to dive into the science of play!
Schedule for the Day
11am-12pm: Welcome! Intro to games and engagement games + Grow a Game!
12pm-1pm: Lunch with Mentor Presentations and Q&A. Mentors Include:
- Sarah Zaidan, Assistant Professor, game designer, and scholar
- Kyrie Eleison Caldwell, Graduate Research Assistant, MIT Game Lab and the Education Arcade
- Kellian Adams, CEO at Green Door Labs, specializing in museum, library, and place-based games
- Dawn Rivers, Cinematographer at Harmonix- previously featured in Forbes 30 under 30.
- Linda Wilkins and Shyla Navarro, Hasbro, Global Brand Strategy & Marketing Director
- Emily Care Boss, Role-playing game designer and publisher with Black & Green Games as well as Editor of RPG=Role Playing Girl
1pm-2pm: Hands-on Workshop Tracks. Topics include:
- Twine: Join this hands-on workshop to learn how to use the interactive fiction tool Twine. Led by Engagement Lab Producer Jordan Pailthorpe.
- Edventure Builder: Build a location-based puzzle hunt with Kellian Adams and her Edventure Builder. Go (quickly) through a game-design process and together we'll form a story and create challenges to build into the Edventure Builder for a prototype game. Come armed with some ideas of how to get people exploring Emerson!
- Game Modding: Join the Engagement Lab's Becky and Christina for an excersise in diving deeper with game mechanics by modifying a game.
