Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine Revue Performance
Event Information
About this event
Join the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine as they present a revue of works by the noted duo. Performers include Dorothy Wheatcraft, Joe Marshall, Zachery Field, Vanessa Klein, Roland Dube and Celeste Mittelhauser with pianists Deiran Manning and Jessica Mehre. The performance will include excerpts from noted works such as Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore, Iolanthe and many more. Founded in 1976 by Harris Strong and Elizabeth “Betty” Beatty, two friends mad for Gilbert & Sullivan, the society has produced fully staged productions since it’s inception. The society was originally founded as the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Hancock County, later changed to the G&S Society of Maine to include performances and performers from beyond the county. Following the renovation of the Grand Auditorium by another Harris Strong organization, Hancock County Auditorium Associates, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society decided to produce their first performance in that location. The new company performed The Gondoliers in early 1977. That show became the first in an uninterrupted series of full-on productions spanning more than four decades. Masks required for audience.
