Event description

Description

Facilitated by Mary Laymon.

Our life's work is learning to love well. Based on Brene Brown's best seller "The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are", we will review the introduction class and then explore the rest of Brown's guideposts for this sort of wholehearted living. A great course for those who took parte one as well as those joining up for the first time.

We are hardwired for connection, but it's a daily practice to reorient ourselves for that sort of courageous vulnerability. Join a small group to explore Authenticity, Resiliency, and more as an introduction to this important work. Each class will include discussion as well as a time of silent meditation that you can use at home. We are never finished, and some of our best growth comes in the most vulnerable places of the heart.

Mary is a certified facilitator for Brené Brown’s work in the Daring Way and Rising Strong. Over the past 20 years Mary has offered spiritual nurture and formation experiences for adults, children, youth and families. using a variety of practices, in settings ranging from rural to suburban and to the inner city. Mary is also the Executive Director for Tikkun Farm, a 3.5 acre farm in Mt. Healthy which hopes to be a place that heals people, repairs communities and restores creation, with a particular focus on helping trauma survivors transform their hurtful experiences into beauty and wisdom. Tikkun Farm has begun this work with neighborhood children living in challenging environments by inviting them to summer camp and after school experiences on the farm. Mary is a pastor in the Lutheran tradition and a spiritual director. She enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, camping and hiking out in God’s “Big Book” – the Celtic way of speaking about creation. But she really loves helping others hear the quiet and persistent voice of love.

This course runs from September 12th through October 31st; the course meets for two weeks in September, then takes two weeks off and returns for the rest of October.
