Event description
#GIDYVR Still Talking Series is back for a third event: How media bias shapes the gender identity debate.

About this Event

We are excited to announce the third event in the #GIDYVR Still Talking Series. Please join us on November 2 for a talk and discussion, “How media bias shapes the gender identity debate.”

Gender identity ideology and legislation have enormous ramifications for Canadians, and serious consequences for the rights of women and children. However, this is not apparent from mainstream media coverage of the topic. Canadian (and most international) media outlets almost exclusively frame the debate on gender identity ideology and legislation as irrelevant or non-existent, aside from the occasional blowout between progressives and a so-called hateful fringe of women and right-wingers. The truth is not so simple.

You are welcomed to join the conversation, along with Meghan Murphy, Anna Slatz, Jonathan Kay, and moderator Lindsay Shepherd.

Meghan Murphy is a journalist and the founder/editor of Feminist Current. She is currently involved in a legal battle over her permanent suspension from Twitter.

Anna Slatz is a writer at The Post Millennial. She was one of the few Canadians to cover the Jessica Yaniv human rights tribunal scandal, and secured exclusive interviews with young women who allege Yaniv preyed upon them when they were underage.

Jonathan Kay is an editor for Quillette. He has years of experience in Canadian media, including at The National Post, the CBC, and The Walrus.

Lindsay Shepherd is a writer, free speech advocate, and YouTuber.

You’re invited to take part in the talk and Q&A with our speakers, November 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre. Room TBA.

Persons with all viewpoints are welcome in this discussion.

We’re still talking, and hope you are, too!
