Event description

Description

Join FHSR as we kick off our funding campaign to create the Music to My Ears Scholarship Fund celebrating our 60th Anniversary and the joy of music.
This event will include a pre-screening reception, introduction of the film by the executive producer and viewing of the award winning documentary Chasing Trane – The story of extraordinary saxophonist and composer John Coltrane.
This documentary has garnered awards at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival and the IDFA as an Official Selection movie.

Award winning Director, John Scheinfeld digs in deep to get the stories behind this innovator and his music. In a movie that has been described as engrossing and at times worshiping, it is the definitive bio-pic on this incredible musician.

FHSR is proud to partner with The Merit School of Music and The Old Town School of Music to create the Music To My Ears Scholarship Fund commemorating the Foundation’s 60th Anniversary.
The Scholarship will provide tuition-free early childhood music classes to children (ages birth – four) who are deaf/ hard of hearing living in Chicago and the surrounding Suburbs for one year.

Research has shown the benefits of children being exposed to music in early childhood, these benefits are increased for a child with hearing loss. From language acquisition to sentence structure, inflection and tone, exposure to music will provide indelible positive benefits.
The FHSR is proud to foster the love of music into these children’s lives.

$900 will provide a year of classes for one deaf/ hard of hearing child.
This amount will allow children who might not otherwise be able to afford music enrichment classes to attend weekly music classes and experience the joy of music with their normal hearing peers.
