GHOST TOURS with BEN FRANKLIN, Old Fort House Museum, Ft. Edward, 7:45 & 9...

Event description

Join Benjamin Franklin at the Old Fort House Museum grounds for an evening of enjoyable ghost seeking and conversation and learning about our colonial American history at Fort Edward. Walk the historic & haunted grounds that were once home to Paleolithic Indians, a French & Indian War provincial camp, Revolutionary War Soldiers drilling and the home of Simon Northrup. Not to mention having hosted George Washington, Ben Franklin, Marquis de Lafayette, the adventuresome Baroness Frederika von Riedesel, Henry Knox, Sir William Johnson, Robert Rogers of Roger's Rangers, and many other historic illuminaries.

Remember that in the mid-1700's, Fort Edward was an enormous garrison encompassing a military of 65,000, and was the third largest city in the Colonies at that time. Whatever British military actions taking place in the areas to the north began at Fort Edward. And it was the much despised General Webb of Fort Edward who allowed no military relief to aid the poor souls utterly defeated by the French at Fort William Henry 16 miles away, who, running for their lives, suffered devastating massacre by Indians in their desperate but mostly ill-fated attempt to reach Fort Edward. Only cannon fire at 15 -minute intervals to guide the stragglers to Fort Edward by sound. Imagine running through the dark of night with only the sound of intermittent cannon fire guiding you to safety!
