Come spend a relaxed Sunday afternoon as you stroll your way through the lush gardens of historic Gettysburg and western rural Adams County. This area is not only steeped in our nation’s history, but boasts some of the finest agricultural lands in Pennsylvania. Amid vast orchards and farmlands, smaller flower and landscape gardens also thrive.
During the tour you will have the opportunity to visit three private homes and seven historic inns. Each stop is included for its historic value and beauty of its lavish gardens. As you wander amid the tranquil environs of each garden, it is our hope that in addition to sheer enjoyment, you might also come away with some ideas for your own homes and gardens.
As you meander along the stops of the tour, you will visit not only Gettysburg’s oldest residential home, but several other properties that date from the early 1700s to the late 1800s. From serene patches among the hubbub of town, to the laid back country gardens of the rural county; from the rambling beauty of flowers and native plants, to the formal splendor of herbs and vegetables, all will be showcased for your enjoyment.
All proceeds from your donation will benefit two great local organizations: The Gettysburg Festival, which hosts an annual celebration of art, culture and cuisine, and the Land Conservancy of Adams County, which works tirelessly to preserve the rural lands and character of the county.
The tour begins at 1:00 PM and ends at 5:00 PM. You may move at your leisure between stops on the tour. Stops on the tour include The Brafferton Inn, The Gaslight Inn, James Gettys Hotel, Brickhouse Inn, Shriver House, Lightner Farmhouse, Fairfield Inn, Middlekauff Manor, Hickory Bridge Farm and Beech Springs Farm.
