Maybe it is because I happen to live close by, but Gettysburg and the surrounding landscape is much more than monuments, battles, blue and gray. There are beautiful photographs just waiting to be taken. Whether you are looking to learn how to use that nice camera you bought, an experienced shooter looking for tips or a seasoned veteran looking to meet and talk with other photography enthusiasts from all over the world, then I invite you to join professional outdoor Jerry Gilbert, on a morning light photography walk through the Battlefield in Gettysburg this May. These Tuesday morning walks are designed to teach such things as basic camera use and composition in a natural, morning light environment. Photography is a social passion and what better way to sharpen your skills or develop some new ones than in a small group, limited in size to 15, as we walk the battlefield talking and making new friends. I am a professional outdoor and nature photographer, not a battlefield guide and this is not an interpretive battlefield tour. There's no way I could wear the uniform. The focus in all on photography and how I can help you improve yours.
This Summer's 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg is a once in a lifetime event and is expected to bring an estimated 1.5 million photography enthusiasts from all over the world. Beat the crowds, meet new people and make new friends as we walk the battlefield in the early morning. What better way to explore the landscape that ranges from backdrop of daily life, to, defining point in a nation's history, depending on your point of view. Mine is that there is beauty to be found wherever we look for it, you can never have too many smiles, there is no fill line on laughter and you can't have enough great relationships in your life. I'm Jerry and I'd love to help show you how to make the most of the pictures you are going to take home and share with the world.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Parking areas will be determined based on the route of the walk, which will vary in location and information on parking will be distributed to attendees prior to each walk. No transportation will be provided.
When are the dates of the Group Photo Walks?
They are being held each Tuesday morning in May from 6-9am.
Will the walk be on the Battlefield?
Yes, we will be walking and taking pictures on the Gettysburg Battlefield.
What does it cost and where are the walks going to be held?
The cost is $69.96 per person. The route will vary depending on week, weather and where I feel the best chances are for you to take some great pictures before everyone else finishes their breakfast. They are rain or shine as well, so come prepared. I'm not responsible for the weather or the weather sealed state of your camera.
Do I get a discount if I want to attend Photo 101 at the Garryowen on the night before the walk?
Yes! Your Group Photo Walk email confirmation will contain a discount code for HALF OFF the purchase of a Photo 101 ticket! Plug that code in a checkout to get Photo 101 for half off and join me the night before the walk to learn how to use the camera you'll be carrying with you.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Bring your camera! Whether you have a dSLR, a point and shoot or are using your phone, the rules of composition don't change. If you are uncomfortable with the manual settings on your camera bring along your instruction booklet as well so I can help you with your particular model. You may bring a tripod, I'll have mine, but remember these are 3 hour walks, don't bring more than you want to carry.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
If you have any questions, please email: email@example.com
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, please bring your printed ticket to the photo walk. To make sure you get the attention you need in making images you are proud of, the size of the photo walks are limited. Your printed ticket will be scanned for admittance to the group. No, I can't stop you from bringing a family member, but individuals without scanned tickets won't have access to all of the super secret photo knowledge gained
Is Jerry going to be taking pictures too?
These photo walks are designed to help you. Walk size is limited to 15, rain or shine, so individual attention can be given to those who attend. That being said, if there's a shot that is screaming to be taken, how can I resist?
