Event description

Description

This workshop is jointly sponsored and taught by the Carnegie Mellon Information Security Office (ISO) and University Libraries (UL).

Password managers are software applications that enable users to quickly and securely store, organize, retrieve, and change passwords and other sensitive information. Not only do password managers improve security, they also increase productivity. Moreover, password managers may also help users comply with mandates that require unique "strong" passwords to secure information. During the session, attendees will receive help with setting up LastPass, one of three password managers recommended for use by the ISO.

This session will cover:

  • How password managers work to generate and secure passwords
  • Scenarios where password managers can increase your security and productivity
  • What are the pros and cons of using password managers and LastPass in particular
  • Getting up and running with LastPass
  • How to configure your security settings in LastPass

If you are a student, faculty, or professional staff who wants to increase their password security as well as productivity, this session is for you!

Please bring your laptop if you would like to get started with LastPass.
