Join us for an online, introductory session on the basics of governance for small (and growing) community groups!

Getting Started with Governance: Working To Connect Small LGBTQIA+ Groups in Brighton & Hove 


Working To Connect is inviting small LGBTQIA+ groups’ organisers for an introductory session on governance, including key documents, policies and practices your organisation might want to consider if looking to fundraise, develop or grow. 


Content will include:


  • What governance is and what we need it for
  • Examples of governance in practice, including key documents and policies 
  • How to get started on developing governance within your group
  • Questions and discussion with experienced community professionals


The session will be ONLINE and limited to two representatives per group due to limited space. The Zoom link will be shared 1 week prior to the event, please see accessibility information below.

Who can attend?


Working To Connect provides organisational support to Brighton & Hove’s small LGBTQIA+ groups, including those who are not yet constituted or registered. We consider our participants any group and/or organisers who seek to provide space, events or support to LGBTQIA+ adults living in the city who:


  • Have an income of less than £100,000 a year and/or
  • Have less than 3 full-time staff, or equivalent of. 


Examples of groups who participate in our activities are: Dyke Peer Support, Trans Pride Brighton & Hove, Grow Your Life, Radical Rhizomes and Lunch Positive.

Who is running the session? This webinar will be delivered by Katie Vincent (she/her), a local charity sector consultant who specialises in fundraising, governance, strategy and sustainability. Katie spent several years as the CEO of AllSorts Youth Project, and alongside her consultancy, works part-time for The Shameless Fund. Gray Hutchins (they/them) who oversees the Working To Connect programme will also be along to support. 


Accessibility

For this session we will be using Zoom, which has an automated live-caption feature. There will be use of a presentation, and optional participation of discussion among attendees. The chat will be monitored, and upon booking, you can pre-submit a question for discussion if you prefer to remain anonymous.
