Getting Started with GitHub (Online Class)
Friday, March 22nd at 4 pm EST
Izzy Johnston, CTO, Girl Develop It

Not familiar with GitHub? No problem. This livestream will cover the basics of setting you up on GitHub and walk you through the process of checking your code into a repository. You’ll also learn how to make feature branches so you can check in-progress code without affecting code you’re developing.

Student Takeaways:

  • Find out how to create a new repository (git init).
  • Learn how to clone an existing repository (git clone).
  • Find out how to run a commit.
  • Use git log to see history.
  • Use simple branching (with and without conflict resolution).
  • Push to GitHub and see it online.

Please create a GitHub account beforehand.

Instructor Bio:
By day Izzy Johnston is the Chief Technology Officer at Girl Develop It (GDI) and by night she teaches courses for GDI - plus she’s also a professor of information science at Pratt Institute. Izzy loves teaching as much as she loves developing. She sees herself as an empowerment leader for women learning new skills in software development and is committed to bringing the Girl Develop It mission to all corners of the globe.
