Description

Description:

Is your social change organization looking to do more with data? Wondering what data for good is all about? Confused about what data science is? Then this 4 week course is for you. This is the perfect experience to start thinking about how your organization might be able to better use data to create social change.

The class will meet weekly on Thursdays from 12-1 CST starting October 11th. In addition to class time, students will be invited to a private slack channel where we can connect with one another outside of our webinar sessions.

Week 1 will focus on level-setting. What is data anyway? Why does it matter to the social sector. We will cover some basic terms and concepts that will help lay the foundation for the rest of the class.

Week 2 will dive into how to turn data into insight. We will go over a framework for how organizations can collect better data and find value in it. You will then work that week to find ways to implement this model at your organization.

Week 3 we will dive into impact measurement, often one of the primary use cases for data at an organization. We will go over important terms and methodologies for estimating the impact of your program or intervention.

Week 4 will dive into an introduction of data science. What is it? What’s the big deal about big data? What are all these terms like machine learning and AI all about anyway?

Participants will leave the 4 week class with a good conceptual foundation of how data is changing the social sector. You will have new language, new frameworks, and new colleagues to help you find more value in your data.

Members of Data Analysts for Social Good receive a $50 discount to this class.
