Highly prized for the purity of their pigment, the vibrant color of pastel chalks has captivated artists for centuries. Because pastel technique can combine drawing and painterly styles, it is a perfect avenue for discovery. The summer light will help us sort out hue, tint, and tone. We will concentrate on quick exercises using large paper to practice variations on color theory themes. Ane will also introduce a value system she has derived that helps to organize the wide range of colors in pastel work. The class extends into the early evening to allow us to capture the golden late light of summer. All levels welcome.

We are the primary nonprofit park partner of the National Park Service at Point Reyes. With community support we are helping to fund and implement resource preservation projects within the park, while also providing people a way to explore, discover and connect with the natural world through our environmental education programs.
