Event description
Spring Bird Identification - tips, tricks and other good info

About this Event

Warblers and Tanagers and Buntings, oh my!

The neotropical migratory birds will return to Louisiana in the spring from their winter homes. Some will stay to breed, others will only pass through for a brief time on their way thousands of miles to the north.

This class is designed for the fairly new birder that needs some guidance, tips and tricks to help with identification of these birds. This class is NOT for someone who has had no introduction to birding.

Class will be taught by Jane Patterson. Preference will be given to alumni of my Birding Basics class and to Baton Rouge Audubon members.

We will cover:

- General review of spring migrants

- Expected dates for different species

- Warbler identification

- Tips on bird song - what to listen for

- Places to go to see spring migrants

This is a classroom only workshop. The class is limited to 60 participants. Binoculars not required. Bring a field guide (electronic is fine) and a notebook.

Note: this class is NOT for experienced birders. Your snoring will disrupt the class :)
