Event description

Description

Join NatureBridge and Project WET for an exciting exploration of the Santa Monica Mountains and California's pathway to environmental literacy with a focus on the Environmental Principles & Concepts (EP&Cs). The workshop will support your understanding of California's science frameworks and how they emphasize place-based and outdoor environmental learning strategies.

This workshop is designed for teachers in Grades 4-6.

About the workshop presenter, Kurt Holland
Kurt's teaching experience includes formal classrooms where he has taught oceanography, navigation, and meteorology at Orange Coast College, middle school chemistry/physics at SMASH (Santa Monica Alternative School House), and officer licensing for the U.S. Coast Guard. Kurt serves as an Advisory Board Member for Heal the Bay and California Project WET and is on the Teacher Advisory Committee for TreePeople. Kurt has thirteen years experience designing, facilitating, and leading highly engaging professional development opportunities for formal and non-formal classroom educators focusing on Science, STEM, and Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS) practices.

*Part of the workshop will be held outside on the trails in the Santa Monica Mountains. Dress weather-appropriate, bring close-toe shoes, hat, and sunscreen.

Workshop sponsors include NatureBridge, Project WET, the National Park Service, and the Gold Coast Science Network.
