Round trip NYC to DC for the People's March for Climate, Jobs and Justice

Various Departure Points in New York City

Event description

Description

People's Climate Movement NY is coordinating round-trip busses from various points in NYC to Washington, DC, on Saturday, April 29, for the massive People's March for Climate, Jobs and Justice in Washington, D.C. All busses will depart at 6 am from several different locations around NYC, including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island, and return between 9 and 10 pm that night. We will add more busses and new departure locations as needed. To find the most convenient location, please scroll down the list after clicking on the green "Tickets" button. Be sure to click on "More Info" for the pick-up address, and please make a note of your bus number (if it has one, such as USQ#2) and location.

Some busses are tagged with the name of an organization. This is to make it easy for members of those groups to ride together. However, anyone can reserve a seat in those busses--they are not limited to group members. Please feel free to book seats on those busses is they are convenient. The exceptions are the High School busses--they are only for HS students and accompanying adults.

All busses will drop passengers at RFK Stadium in Washington, and pick them up there again, departing at 5 pm. For information about the march route and the day's schedule, please go to: https://peoplesclimate.org/logistics/?link_id=0&can_id=d9ad874781ed76d1fa1519a695a2772d&source=email-10-days-to-go-heres-everything-you-need-to-know&email_referrer=10-days-to-go-heres-everything-you-need-to-know___201243&email_subject=10-days-to-go-heres-everything-you-need-to-know.

We are using EventBrite to track reservations and manage payment. A separate order must be made for each rider, in the name of the rider. One person cannot reserve multiple seats in one name, because bus captains will need to track their reserved riders in both directions. We are not using paper tickets.

Bus prices are on a sliding scale, from $20 to $100, so that as many people as possible can participate. $55 is the current break-even price for PCMNY. Less expensive seats are intended for low income riders only, including seniors, students, and those on limited incomes: we may require proof of age, student status, or income. We have to limit the number of subsidized seats, so please only reserve these seats if you are low-income. Please contact us with questions or to request subsidized seating: pcmny.A29@gmail.com.

We also have a donation button to allow supporters to help subsidize the busses, whether or not they are traveling to DC with us. This button is also for you if you can donate more than your ticket price but not as much a $100 for a seat.

Information here is subject to change. If you purchase a seat and there is a change (such as location, time, etc.) we will send you an email immediately.

Please note: You must be on time for departures from NYC and Washington DC. The busses cannot wait for latecomers. You will not get a refund if you miss the bus, and we will also not be able to help you find your way back to NYC.

FAQs

Do I need to bring my Eventbrite ticket to the bus?

No. When you buy a ticket, your name will be added to the list of people who have reserved seats on that particular bus. You do not need a paper ticket, and you cannot board the bus if your name is not on the list, even if you have a ticket.

Where do the busses leave from?

Busses will depart from several different locations around Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. To see the bus departure locations, click on the green Tickets button and scroll down. Click for the button for more information for specific addresses. Be sure to make a note for yourself about which bus you are on!

Where in Washington DC will the bus drop us and pick us up?

All of the busses will drop riders at RFK Stadium, and pick them up there after the march. The Stadium is a little less than four miles from the White House. You will be met at RFK by people from the DC organizing team. We are working to have DC Metrocards available for all bus passengers so that you won't need to buy them in the station.

Can I change my bus to ride with a friend?

Yes, but only if you arrange that with us ahead of time and there is room on the other bus. We'll refund your ticket so you can buy another on your friend's bus. Otherwise, you must board the bus for which you bought a seat: you cannot change to another bus without coordinating the move with the organizers ahead of time. Each bus will have a captain with a list of the names of people who have bought seats for that specific bus.

Unless you make other arrangements with us, you'll be returning on the same bus you rode down to DC on. When you leave the bus in DC, your bus captain will give you a slip of paper with the time and location and we hope a map showing where you will board the bus for the ride home.

What if I cannot afford to pay for a seat?

We will try to provide as many subsidized seats as possible, and we hope that coalition organizations will also provide seats. When you reserve a seat, you will see that there are some low-cost seats available. If you cannot afford the full fare, please use one of these seats. There is also a space for people who have the resources to donate to subsidize more seats for people who cannot afford to travel. At times, there will be no subsidized seats available: please know that we are working hard to raise funds for this, and check back.

What if the bus I want is sold out?

We will keep waiting lists for busses that sell out, and regularly add more busses to meet demand. We will also help you find another bus with available seats. If none of our busses have space, look for seats on commercial bus lines. If you would like to suggest a depature location, which should be close to subway and bus stops and have room for a bus to park while waiting to leave, please email us at pcmny.A29@gmail.com.

Do I need to bring my Eventbrite ticket to the bus?

No. When you buy a ticket, your name will be added to the list of people who have reserved seats on the bus. You do not need a paper ticket, and you cannot board the bus if your name is not on the list, even if you have a ticket.

What if I only want to go one way?

You need to pay for the full round trip even if you want to stay in D.C. However, if there is someone who is already in DC and wants a one-way trip back to NYC, we will help you coordinate this, so you each only pay for one way.

Will I need a DC Metro smartcard for ground travel?

Yes. We are working with the Washington, DC, PCM organizers to have prepaid Metrocards loaded for round trips from RFY Stadium (bus drop off/pick up site) to the March. These will probably cost $7: Please bring cash for this (or buy a ticket in the Metro station)

You can also order a Metro smartcard yourself on line here: https://smartrip.wmata.com/storefront. The least expensive option is $8 worth of fares for $10. This takes at least five days to get the card in the mail, so please plan ahead. Otherwise, you can purchase a card at the station.

Will there be any last minute seats available?

If there are empty seats on Saturday, April 29, at the time the bus is scheduled to leave, those seats can be filled. New riders will be asked to pay for those seats with cash or check ($50, $20 students/seniors/low income) to the bus captain, who will give them a receipt. All funds will be used for subsidizing seats on busses to the march and/or other march-related PCM-NY expenses.

What can I bring into the event?

We recommend that you bring snacks and drinks for the bus ride, and a bag lunch if you want. Pillows and blankets are welcome.

Drinking alcohol, smoking, and vaping are not allowed on the busses.

You can leave stuff on the bus during the march. But please note that you will not have access to anything left on the bus during the march.

Please bring signs, banners, puppets, musical instruments and other props for the march.

Please do not bring weapons, sticks that might be perceived as weapons, or unlawful substances to the march.

What's the refund policy?

We will refund ticket price until Monday. April 24, at 6 pm.

Are paid reservations transferable?

The best way to do that is to request a refund for the original buyer and to buy a new seat for the replacement rider. Just giving someone else the Eventbrite ticket will not get them a seat on a bus.

What other ways are there to get to DC for the People's Cimate March?

You can carpool: find others who are driving or look for riders at ridevu at https://ridevu.com/events/893/carpool/peoples-climate-mobilization-2017-ride-share/ or at erideshare at https://erideshare.com/peoplesclimate.html.

You can take the train from Penn Station in NYC to Union Station in Washington, DC. https://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak

You can book a seat on a regular busline. Look online: we are not recommending any one company.

How can I contact the organizer with questions?

Please email PCMNY.A29@gmail.com with any questions, and we will reply as soon as we can.
