The Get Kids Movin’ initiative is a traveling tour with a mission to get kids mentally and physically fit for all aspects of their lives. This program launched in November of 2012, based on the work of 10-year-old Rap Activist Chi Chi Monet and her song, “Move.” Get Kids Movin’ has held nine health-education programs in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia throughout 2012 and 2013, reaching nearly 2,000 youth and families.
YMCA of the National Capital Area has partnered with Get Kids Movin' (GKM) to present the first ever GKM National Summit in conjunction with National Day of Service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, January 20, 2014. This will be an interactive discussion and fitness fair targeting 500 youth and families, educators, health experts and more.
Get Kids Movin' is a fun afternoon that combines a DJ, live entertainment a festival-style fitness fair - complete with zumba, hip-hop dance, cardio, boxing, jump rope, and much more. The FASHION SHOW, presented by Sports Zone Elite has become a favorite. This is a perfect fitness event for families of all ages.
SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER ON NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE - SERVE at Get Kids Movin'! We need adults to help with the following:
- GKM Leaders - will be the go-to adults to help make the event a success, directing attendees where to go, tours of the YMCA, and helping to advance the missions of YMCA and Get Kids Movin
- MEDIA TEAM - The Media Team will help share the GKM stories and photos via the internet and social media that day. We are also in search of volunteer photographers and videographers
- MOVERS - Get Kids Movin' is most fun when adults MOVE with the kids. We would like volunteers who love fitness to attend and have fun!
- MODELS - Kids ages 3-12 are welcome to join the fashion show. Angelic Expressions Kids Talent Agency manages models and the fashion show. Email email@example.com with a photo and your model's sizes apply.
