Event description

Description

This week is National Coding Week, so every day Full Stack Of Pancakes is hosting workshops to get Manchester coding.

In this workshop, we're going to learn about and playing with the master of file management - GIT. You'll leave having learnt about deploying your code, making changes, pushes, pulls, branches and masters - all the important stuff you'd need to know to get your code working and how to work on larger projects with your fellow coders.

Where is this event being held?

TUESDAY 19th - MoneySavingExpert, 57 Spring Gardens (Corner of West Mosley Street), Manchester M2 2BY

THURSDAY 21st - Feed Manchester, The Hive, 4th Floor, 51 Lever Street, Manchester, M1 1FN

What is Git?

Git is a distributed version control system. To translate that into English, Git is a tool to help keep track of changes you make to your coding project and allows you and a team to share these changes with each other. Git helps you collaborate and manage your project files which is useful for personal projects but essential for commercial projects.If/when you become an employed developer you'll discover that getting your code up and running is a team effort, not a lonely endeavour undertaken by one developer in their bedroom.

Who is this workshop for?

Any adult with an active interest in learning to code! You'll already be confident with using a computer and web browsers, you might have already started learning to code HTML and CSS for example, this workshop will enhance your existing skill-set by explaining new concepts to you. For newbie coders, this workshop will be a fun introduction to the world of code deployment.

I'm interested but I've never coded before, can I still come?

Absolutely! This workshop is designed specifically for total novices, our mentors are briefed to keep jargon to a minimum, and as well as a friendly lecture we'll provide visual aids for you to refer to. This workshop will be a safe space to ask all the questions you need to, all of us are here and excited to support you on your coding journey.

What do I need to bring?

Your laptop, its charger, and bags of enthusiasm to face a bit of challenge.

Coding is hungry work, will there be food and refreshments?

Our sponsor has kindly sponsored our refreshments and food for the evening, there will be; water, tea, coffee, soft drinks. There will also be pizza - meat, veggie, and vegan options available! If you have any specific dietary requirements please contact the organiser.

How accessible is this venue?

Accessibility to be announced. We are aiming to recruit mentors who have different mother tongue to help out ESL students - further details to come.
