Event description

Description

The Forum on Geopolitics and Peterhouse are delighted to announce that Professor Hans-Werner Sinn will deliver a public lecture at Peterhouse on 25 January 2017.

Professor Sinn is the doyen of German economists and recently-retired head of the legendary Munich IFO-Institute. He has been a long-term critic of the euro and in particular warned of the dangers of uncompetitiveness along the southern flank of the currency union. He was prominent in drawing attention to the pitfalls of the various 'bailout' packages over the past six years or so.

In this lecture, which forms part of a series on German Geopolitics Today, he will advance a positive vision for our continent and its currency, and show us a 'path towards unity’, incorporating a new role for the UK and other associated countries. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session and a drinks reception, to which all are welcome.

About Professor Sinn
Professor Hans-Werner Sinn was Professor of Economics and Public Finance at the University of Munich and President of the renowned Ifo Institute until his recent retirement. He is the author of many celebrated works, including The Euro Trap. On bursting bubbles, budgets and beliefs (Oxford University Press, 2015).
