HISTORY

German-American Day is a holiday in the U.S. observed annually on Oct. 6. (We will be celebrating on the 4th). It celebrates German-American heritage and commemorates the date in 1683 when 13 German families landed in Philadelphia and founded Germantown, Pennsylvania, the first German settlement in the original 13 American colonies.

This year's event will feature a speaker from Germany, Professor Christoph Meier-Siem, and a representative for the city of Savannah, Alderman Bill Durrence.
