Event Details

Join us at the historic Jazz Showcase for performances from award-winning pianist Gerald Clayton and the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble!  These concerts are the culmination of Clayton's week-long residency at the Music Department at Columbia College Chicago.

The Columbia College Jazz Ensemble will be performing without Gerald Clayton for both shows on Sunday, March 16th due to a prior commitment.  Discounted tickets are not valid on on Saturday, March 15th.

About Gerald Clayton

Over the course of eight years, with three albums as a leader, several studio projects as a sideman, and countless worldwide performances, pianist and composer Gerald Clayton has established himself as a leading figure in the up-and-coming generation of jazz artists who are fluent in the range of styles that make up today's jazz lexicon. Hailed by The New York Times for his "huge, authoritative presence," Clayton is well on his way toward etching his own enduring mark in the long and rich tradition of jazz.   More information:

About the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble

The Columbia College Jazz Ensemble (dir. Scott Hall) is a diverse team of students creating dynamic big band music throughout the college campus, and the Chicago region. We aim to enrich the lives of Columbia College Chicago students through extensive performance and research of the history of jazz, and we believe in passing on the tradition of jazz through our works, from collaborative campus-wide projects, to mentoring in the public schools. Columbia College Music Department

Welcome to the Music Department of Columbia College Chicago, where the city is our campus and our students become skilled artists in a musical community that prepares them for real work in the real world.

Our award-winning faculty of working professional artists brings a diversity of musical experience, wisdom and innovative approaches to our "hands-on, minds-on" curriculum. We combine a solid liberal arts education with programs that emphasize musicianship, professionalism, self-expression and originality.

Our students become skilled artists as they learn daily from faculty who are professionally active in what they teach. Our graduates take with them an impressive portfolio of work, including recordings of their performances and/or compositions. Our outstanding Artist in Residence program brings top professionals into classrooms, ensembles and student ensemble performances. Recent artists include Christian McBride, Todd Lundgren, Charlie Sexton, Barry Harris, Paula Cole, Benny Golson, Brian Culbertson and Mike Stern.

All of our specialized Music programs are grounded in a solid Liberal Arts foundation, providing an in-depth educational experience with a definite creative edge. We prepare our students for real work in the real world, and provide the opportunity for them to "author the culture of their times."
Columbia College Chicago is located in the South Loop. Our twenty-five-building campus is part of Chicago's cultural skyline, within walking distance of the city's world-class theaters, galleries, museums, and concert halls. The Music Center faces Grant Park on Michigan Avenue, the 11th Street Bridge, and Chicago's Museum Campus. But there's much more to explore inside.
