Job Description

Under close supervision, learns to assist in a variety of transportation maintenance services. Training will be provided in the area of assignment (Routine Maintenance, Areawide, Maintenance, Special Outfits, or Mechanic Shop) to gain full proficiency in some or all of the job responsibilities.

Position will be classified as Temporary for 6 months. During the 6-month period, the temporary employee will be enrolled in CDL training (paid for by the employer), provided with assistance in preparing for the exam, along with on-the-job training. An MLT will be hired as a full-time GDOT Equipment Operator 1 at the end of the 6-month period, upon successfully completing the CDL training and receiving the correlated license.

Selected applicants will undergo a pre-employment drug screening.

Agency Specific Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age

• Must possess high school diploma or GED

• Possession of a valid driver’s license

• Demonstrated training and/or transferrable experience to perform essential job functions in maintenance of roadway activities

• Ability to lift moderately heavy objects, bend, climb, stand, or walk for long periods of time; possess accurate eye-hand coordination

• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

• Ability to adapt to changing situations with work plans and work schedules due to workload or season Display a high standard of work ethic and commitment toward work

Job Duties

• Mow Grass on Right of Way

• Edge Rutting (fill in low spot on shoulder of roadway

• Brush / Tree Cutting

• Remove dead animals from Roadway

• Weed Eating

• Flagging/Traffic Control

• Other general labor duties as assigned
