Georgia Brass Band presents The Music of America
Tue, May 23, 2017, 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM EDT
Join Georgia's premier British-style brass band for an exciting concert of American music. The program will feature a wide variety of works by prominent American composers including John Williams, Edward MacDowell, and John Philip Sousa (among others) and several of the band's excellents soloists will present special items.
What is a British-style brass band?
The British brass band came into prominence in Victorian England shortly after the turn of the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution. As the name would suggest, the band is made up primarily of brass instruments. Some are very familiar to US audiences, while others may be a bit more esoteric. The brass band is comprised of cornets, flugelhorn, tenor horns, baritones, trombones, euphoniums, tubas, and percussion. You will not find trumpets, French horns, mellophones, woodwinds or strings in our band.
What type of music will be played?
There will be a good variety of musical styles. There will be a classical transcription or two, a march or two, a solo or two, and some original works for brass band. All music will be by American composers.
Will it be loud?
Yes, sometimes the music will be loud. Sometimes it will be very loud. After all, we're talking about thirty brass and percussion players. That said, there will be plenty of music that will not be very loud. The room is well designed and can handle any volume we can generate.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
We are pleased to welcome attentive concertgoers of all ages. As a courtesy to both audience members and performers, we do respectfully ask that small children be temporarily removed from the auditorium if they cause any prolonged disturbance.
Is parking available?
There is ample free parking adjacent to the auditorium. Overflow parking may also be had at Roswell City Hall and there is a short, convenient walking path to the auditorium. Please do not park in the library lot across the street.
What can I bring into the event?
Attentive ears and a love of good music. Food and drink are not permitted in the auditorium. Audio and/or video recording is also strictly prohibited.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
You may contact the band at email@example.com with additional questions.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
While a printed copy is preferable, an electronic copy is fine.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket doesn't match the person who attends?
Absolutely! Please feel free to purchase 50 or 100 tickets in your name and hand them out friends.
