Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Daniele McKay for a geology hike at Whychus Canyon Preserve. Marvel at the geologic history of this spectacular rimrock canyon and take in the views at scenic overlooks. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Cascade crest while learning about the forces of nature that formed Central Oregon and the cliffs surrounding Whychus Creek. Along the way, explore ancient juniper groves, Whychus Creek, and a portion of the Santiam Wagon Road. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.
Hike Rating: This is a challenging 6 mile hike on Whychus Canyon Preserve hiking trails.
Route: This hike will start at the Whychus Canyon Preserve kiosk and follow trails down into the Whychus Creek canyon. Terrain will be uneven and steep at times.
Elevation gain/loss: This hike is challenging with 300' of elevation gain.
What to Bring: Snacks/lunch, water, closed toe shoes. Dress for the weather.
