Explore the wild seascapes of San Francisco on this one-way hike along the Coastal Trail. Discover sandstones at the Cliff House, mélange at Lands End, serpentinite at the Presidio as well as beach, dune, and landslide deposits that sculpt this scenic shoreline. Discover the complex geology of the Franciscan rocks that record the collision and subduction of the Farallon Plate beneath North America. During our trip, we will also learn about natural hazards, the 1906 earthquake, Ice Age cycles, and climate change. Approximately 5-mile hike with up to 750 feet of elevation gain. As a group, we will carpool to the different starting and ending locations.
