Event description
WCPA's Special Interest & Clinical Divisions Presents: GeneSight Using Pharmacogenomics to Transform Depression Treatment

About this Event

The human genome project, completed in 2003, enabled a massive growth spurt in genetic science and medicine. Pharmacogenomics is one of the offshoots of this explosion in genetic research and development, and one of the more emergent applications of pharmacogenomic testing has been pharmacogenomic testing for psychiatric drugs.

One of the largest issues when taking psychiatric medications is that it is often difficult to ascertain which medicines are going to be most effective, which typically leads to patients being prescribed two or three different medications until the proper medication is identified. While pharmacogenomic testing cannot tell clinicians which medications will work best for their patients, it can provide additional information related to how a patient may break down or respond to certain medications based on their genetic makeup. This information can be used in concert with other clinical factors to help inform a clinician’s medication selection.

Please join us in a clinical and scientific discussion focusing on the basics of pharmacogenomics and a review of the GeneSight® Psychotropic report and clinical data.
