This program is co sponsored with the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect. Comprising over 50 percent of the world’s population, women continue to be under-represented as voters, political leaders and elected officials. This panel program will examine women’s routes to elective office in traditionally male dominated institutions overseas and the U.S., why the progress in recruiting and electing women has been so slow, and what steps need to be taken to help elect and engage more women in the political process. It will additionally consider the impact of women officeholders, and the value of forming women-men alliances versus women-only support. Panelists include: Deborah Walsh, Director, Center for American Women in Politics at Rutgers; Shazia Rafi, Managing Director, Global Parliament Service and former Secretary General at Parliamentarians for Global Action and Suzannah Wellford, CEO of Running Start.
