Event description

Description

You're invited to join Novant Health, in partnership with Reel Out Charlotte, for a free screening of the award-winning documentary "Gen Silent", followed by a discussion about the film and LGBT aging. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

As the entire nation confronts rampant changes in the healthcare system, an older generation faces a startling challenge that is only now being exposed.

"There is this phenomena of people actually going back into the closet because they're scared of the caregivers out there, and scared of the other people they are living with," says filmmaker Stu Maddux.

"Gen Silent," a documentary feature from Mad Stu Productions, chronicles the lives of six LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) seniors as they deal with surviving in a care system that is hostile towards them.

"It's happening everywhere," Maddux says. "The problem is that even LGBT people around the world don't see it. Their eyes aren't open to it."
