CALLING ALL STAR WARS FANS!
Again this year we are hosting our signature event to celebrate all things Star Wars with our Rogue One, A Star Wars Story Movie Premiere on Friday, December 16, 2016, in Carlsbad at Regal Cinemas!
This year we are raising funds to support colon cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
In late December of 1990, my father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer just after he had his 40th birthday. In the beginning, I don't think any of us understood what was happening including my father. My dad went through treatments and then surgery, but a little more than two months later he died. I was just 19. I remember thinking "How could this be? He is so young. We don't have any family members that have had colon cancer in the past."
My dad was not only a wonderful father, but he really was my hero, and it devastated me when I lost him. I don't want any other little girl to lose her dad the way I did. Please, join me in helping us get the word out about paying attention to the signs of early detection of colon cancer?
To help join our cause and to get one of 50 tickets to our exclusive Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Movie Premiere event, donate $75 or more per ticket. 100% of your donation (less a small transaction fee to EventBrite) will help the American Cancer Society to fight this deadly but survivable disease. If only my dad would have paid attention to the symptoms earlier, he might still be here and be able to be the kind, loving and funny grandpa I know he would have been to Taylor and Lenny.
Get to Know the Facts:
Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. The American Cancer Society’s estimates for the number of colorectal cancer cases in the United States for 2016 are:
95,270 new cases of colon cancer
39,220 new cases of rectal cancer
Overall, the lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is: about 1 in 21 (4.7%) for men and 1 in 23 (4.4%) for women. This risk is slightly lower in women than in men.
Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States when men and women are considered separately, and the second leading cause when both sexes are combined. It is expected to cause about 49,190 deaths during 2016.
"The American Cancer Society is grateful for the support of philanthropic partners such as Geiger Law Office who have encouraged their clients and communities to become involved in raising awareness and funds to prevent and end colon cancer," said Alan Andrade, Director of Major Gifts. "We're excited to increase colon cancer awareness and help end the pain and suffering caused by this disease. Thanks to improvements in prevention, early detection, and treatment, more than a million people in the US count themselves as survivors of colon or rectum cancer (also called colorectal cancer).”
