Event description

Description

In recognition of National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Health Education Resource Solutions (H.E.R.S.), in partnership with S.H.E.E.R. & Divine 9 Lives Matter™ presents, the Gear Up for HIV Awareness Charity Ride and Health Rally.

This event is geared towards African American motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts that are parents, young adults that attend historically black colleges and universities in Atlanta, and middle school and high school youth, hence it's a family event. As such it will provide platforms to help parents learn how to have conversations with their adolescents and young adults surrounding consent and making safer, healthier choices regarding sexual health, and provide a space for African American adolescents and young adults to get accurate sexual health information and get tested for HIV and other STIs/STDs. Additionally, this event will increase awareness, educate, and mobilize African Americans in five main areas: education, engagement, linkage to care, testing and fundraising.

The Gear Up for HIV Awareness motorcycle charity ride will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017. The start site will be Born Losers MC Clubhouse located at 1810 Rogers Lake Road, Lithonia, GA 30058. Registration for the ride and signing of waiver forms will be held at the start location beginning at 9:00 am, followed by KSU (Kick Stands Up) at 11:00 am. The cost for registration for a rider will be $25. The cost for registration with a passenger will be $30 and all virtual rider (individuals that want to help our cause one mile at a time but not actually ride a motorcycle in the event) registration will cost $25. Onsite registration will be cash only, $30, $35, and $30 for riders, riders with passengers, and virtual riders respectively, and will close 30 minutes before the ride departs. All riders will head out on a designated route that will conclude at 12 pm at 2 Wheel Bar & Grill for the Gear Up for HIV Awareness Health Rally.

Approximately 15 health and wellness vendors and 7 vendors specific to motorcycle riders or enthusiasts will participate in the Gear Up for HIV Awareness Health Rally. The day will include HIV testing and education, food and entertainment, motorcycle merchandise vendors and other health screenings such as sickle cell, blood pressure, and blood glucose. Each participant will receive a passport palm card to check off, and if they visit at least 75% of the health and wellness vendors, they will be entered into a drawing to win a prize. Additionally, as an incentive to participate in the health fair, awards will be presented for the most represented female MC, most represented male MC, most represented co-ed MC, and most represented SC.
