Event description

Description

Most researchers probably would have heard the word 'GDPR'. The new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was enforced on 25 May 2018 and it defines new rules for processing personal data. But what does it practically mean for researchers and their workflows? What do they need to do? How to do it? Where to look for support? Do they need to change their practices?

During this event, legal changes to handling personal data will be discussed, focussing on practical implications for research involving personal data and what needs to be done. In addition, the afternoon part of the event will consist of practical exercises with data encryption and data anonymisation, so that the attendees could straight away start implementing their learnings into their daily practices.

Who should attend?

Anyone working with personal research data, or anyone directly supporting those working with personal research data.

What is going to happen?

There will be some presentations from experts in the field before lunch, whereas the afternoon will consist of hands-on training. There will be a lot of opportunities for discussions and questions.

Joining requirements

You are requested to bring a wifi-enabled laptop and you will be asked to install some specific software in advance.

Note that if you are attending the event on 30 August as well, you can join the workshop from 11.15 onwards (morning talks will be repeated).
