Friendship Gardens is excited to host GCHEG again for the fourth year at their Urban Farm at Barringer Academic Cewnter. Bring your gardening gloves and wear your old clothes because you’re going to get dirty! You do not need to know anything about gardening to participate. Activities will include: general maintenance, harvesting fall vegetables, composting, preparing the garden beds for winter, and mulching. A grant from GE Healthcare has been provided to purchased a Hoop House that will be assembled during this event. A Hoop House is a season extension high tunnel/greenhouse which allows Friendship Gardens to group food year round.
Friendship Gardens grow healthy food, making it available to all - especially those with limited access by working with Friendship Trays. Friendship Trays delivers balanced, healthy meals to over 1,300 recipients in the community who are unable, due to age or infirmity, to obtain and prepare their own meals.
This is a family-friendly event, but volunteers who are children need to be age 6 or older.
** Proceeds raised through registration and GCHEG matching (up to $200) will be donated to Friendship Gardens to cover the cost of the event.**
