GCC DETROIT TRIP
Tue, March 21, 2017, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EDT
The Q Deal is dividing our city and county. Citizens of our county shouldn’t be forced to choose between downtown development OR our neighborhoods. We love the Cavs, but we despise the generations of inequity and division in Cleveland; the way massive subsidies go downtown and our neighborhoods are left out.
Since GCC first went public with our opposition to the current version of the Q deal, GCC leaders have made repeated, good faith attempts to enter into meaningful dialogue with local Cavaliers leadership about ways to improve the Q deal so that our neighborhoods can directly benefit from this publicly-subsidized development. To-date, they have been unwilling to come to the table with any level of seriousness.
On March 21st GCC will call on Dan Gilbert directly at his headquarters in Detroit. We will bring families who have been left behind by the so-called ‘Cleveland Renaissance.’ We are not asking Dan Gilbert for a handout, but instead to work together with us to invest in our neighborhoods. The deal as it stands now is deeply unfair. We are asking for Mr. Gilbert's help to bring equity to the deal and improve BOTH downtown and our neighborhoods.
We will depart from Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, 8712 Quincy Ave, at 8am. We will take charter buses to Detroit, have an action/press conference in front of Mr. Gilbert's headquarters, share lunch with faith leader allies in Detroit, and head back to Cleveland, arriving no later than 5pm.
We are suggesting a $25 donation to offset the cost of this trip. This is not required--still come if you cannot make a donation! We will collect check and cash on bus, or here through paypal: paypal.com
