Event description

Description

Grandchamps Author Spotlight is an open discussion of literary works where writers, scholars, and folks of the community gather for a conversation over Haitian fare.

Cindy Similien-Johnson is guided by the principle: "Live to love; work to improve the lives of others; and, create a legacy." A recent recipient of the Caribbean Life Impact Award, Similien-Johnson’s literature celebrates Caribbean and Caribbean-American identities and cultures. She founded CSJ Media Publishing to “inspire, encourage, and empower through the written word.” She is also a columnist for the Haitian Times. A graduate of Barnard College-Columbia University, Similien-Johnson is also the founder of Goal Chic, an initiative that empowers women and girls in her neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY.

Her latest project, "Let's Speak Haitian Food: Stories from the Haitian Diaspora on Cuisine, Community, and Culture" is a culmination of half a decade worth of collecting, editing, and compiling heartfelt stories from more than 100 members of the Haitian Diaspora. Also included are the recipes of her top favorite Haitian foods from her childhood.

Join us as we take a trip down memory lane and get in touch with our roots through nostalgic storytelling.
