Session Presenters:

Justine Post will lead a session titled "Uplifting Inclusive Strategies for Community Engagement."

Justine is one of two Faith & Food Coordinators for Resourceful Communities, a nonprofit that supports rural grassroots and faith-based organizations throughout North Carolina. The Faith & Food initiative focuses on the intersection of faith, food and local economies in some of North Carolina’s most economically-distressed communities. She helps rural churches deepen their food ministries and strengthen community engagement through innovative partnerships and community projects. Rural churches bring a range of resources to local challenges – land, willing volunteers, commercial kitchens and more.

Michelle Osborne and Margaret Krome-Lukens will lead a session titled "Tools for Engaging in Difficult Conversations."

Michelle serves as RAFI-USA's Come to the Table Program Manager for Faith-Based and Community Partnerships. Michelle earned a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and a Master of Social Work from the UNC-CH School of Social Work and has served in leadership positions in churches, nonprofit ministries, and community organizing groups.

Margaret is RAFI-USA's Come to the Table Senior Program Manager. Prior to joining RAFI-USA, she worked as a farm hand and manager on farms in the Triangle, and most recently ran the SNAP/EBT program at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. She holds a BA in International Studies from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College.

Elizabeth Styron will lead a session titled "Let’s 2 Step: Shifting from Charity to Justice."

Liz serves as the Program Manager for Faith Initiatives at Youth Empowered Solutions, a nonprofit that works on local policy, system and environmental change, and trains other teams of youth and adults to replicate youth empowerment work in their own communities. The Faith Initiative specifically focuses on an expansion of existing youth engagement work to include youth from beyond the congregation walls; An increased understanding by faith and community leaders of racial equity and the role structural racism plays in the root causes of issues such as hunger and poverty; and A shift in the traditional mindset and practice of faith communities from “charity” to “justice.”

About the Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA and the Come to the Table program:

At RAFI-USA, we envision a future in which people work in partnership to build strong, self-reliant communities where everyone can eat healthy, just and sustainable food. RAFI-USA brings this vision to life through Come to the Table. Come to the Table’s objective is to relieve hunger and strengthen just, sustainable agriculture in rural North Carolina. We engage and mobilize people of faith, farmers and communities to increase food security, address poverty and strengthen justice in our food system.

This event is organized with support from The Duke Endowment.
