Musician Garrett Collins hails from southwest Michigan dairy farm country. He began his musical career at age 5, singing in his church and entertaining at the St. Joseph County Fair as a teenager. He toured the country by bus entertaining with various musical groups. Garrett studied oboe, clarinet, organ, piano and voice in junior high and high school. He majored in classical pipe organ, languages and opera in college, winning the Phi Kappa Lambda Award for Performance Excellence.
In the mid 1970’s Garrett moved to Paris, France to continue his studies in pipe organ and opera and toured while performing all over Europe.
In 1977 he relocated to Boston, MA to continue his studies and begin a professional music career. He also performed in many churches, concert venues and restaurants including the Strand Theater, Boston Opera House.
In 1981 Garrett put down roots in San Francisco where he has been a staple of the entertainment scene ever since. He has performed as pianist for Linda Ronstadt and organist at: St. Boniface Church, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Old St. Mary’s Cathedral, Grace Cathedral, Davies Symphony Hall, San Francisco Opera House, Bohemian Grove and Bohemian Club, Norse Auditorium, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, City College, Max’s Opera Café, Enrico’s in North Beach, Sheba Piano Lounge, the Boom Boom Room, and The Top of the Mark to name a few.
