Event description

Description

Native plants not only attract and sustain wildlife, they also are particularly suited to growing in our peculiar climate and often require little maintenance once established. Robyn Fletcher is particularly suited to sharing the intricacies of gardening with native plants as his family has operated Gardens of the Blue Ridge, a native plant nursery in Pineola and North Carolina’s oldest licensed plant nursery, for generations. In this workshop, Robyn will discuss selecting plants for specific conditions such as shade, sun and wetlands; pairing plants in a grouping; and gardening for our area’s specific needs of deer resistance and attracting pollinators and other wildlife to your garden. Additionally, Robyn will demonstrate the methods of preparing an area for seeding a wildflower meadow. (Programmer’s note: consider signing up for the Nature Walks to see what nature has planted!)

Instructor: Robyn Fletcher, Gardens of the Blue Ridge

Optional Materials: Note taking materials

Note: Mayland Enterprise Programs provides courses, seminars, and community activities that contribute to an individual's cultural, civic, and/or personal growth. These programs are self-supporting and are not reported to the state for budget FTE.
