About this event

The University of Nevada Extension is offering this series of classes to anyone (not just volunteers) who wish to learn practical information on good, research based, horticulture practices for Southern NV. The instructors are all horticulture specialists and faculty with the University of Nevada in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.

Interactive lectures will introduce prospective volunteers and members of the public too: basic soil science, botany, desert bio-scape, native plants and other important horticulture topics of the area.

This program also fulfills the requirements for the first portion (level one) of the Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program for prospective applicants who live in Southern Nevada (Clark County, Lincoln County and S. Nye County)

The track of eight, three hour classes is presented weekly starting Tuesday, Sept.14 at 9 a.m. Live lectures will be held at that time with recordings available to participants the next day. Participants will need to sign in each day and there will be weekly pre and post test as well as a cumulative "open book exam" at the end.

After payment of $89.00 through Eventbrite, registration instructions will be emailed to participants. Please fill out forms accurately and watch for several emails and zoom links before the first class on Sept. 14

For participants who successfully complete this program and wish to continue on towards the full Master Gardener Program as a Volunteer, they will be invited to apply at the conclusion of this course. If accepted the applicants will be able to enroll into the Level 2 Master Gardener Volunteer Training which will start in Early 2022

Completion of Level 1 does not guarantee a spot with the Master Gardeners, only the opportunity to apply.
