Come and learn what grows well in SWFL, join the knowledgeable Master Gardeners for a tour of the demonstration gardens at 9AM and a Gardening Demonstration at 10AM. the first Tuesday of the Month February Through April.
Schedule of Demonstrations:
Feb 7, Rose Gardening, With Master Gardener Don Hendrickson.
Roses are prized around the world for their beautiful flowers. Here in Florida, they grow and bloom year-round in the southern and central parts of the state. Roses can be mixed into plant beds, featured as a specimen plant, or placed in a garden solely devoted to roses. Learn what types of roses would grow well in our area, pest and disease management, what to do at different times of the year, planting and general care.
Mar 7, Fruit Tree Pruning, With Master Gardener Ray Chapa.
In order to maintain fruit production in a tree’s lower canopy, it must be exposed to sufficient light. When fruit trees are allowed to grow too tall or to become shaded by adjacent trees the lower canopy will be lost and only the middle or top of the tree will flower and eventually set fruit. To prevent this, fruit trees should be pruned annually or biannually. Learn appropriate pruning techniques for different sub-tropical fruit trees with this hands-on demonstration. A brief discussion on general fruit tree care and culture will be included.
April 4, Succulent Gardening, With Master Gardener Connie Willson.
The program will introduce you to the wonderful world of succulent container gardens. We will begin with plant and container choices. Numerous examples will be presented for every design personality. Next we will discuss how to plant your containers with emphasis on design composition and soil. Finally, we will address watering and fertilizing your succulents. Handouts will be provided.
