Event description
Garden photography workshop with Andrea Jones, Garden Photographer of the Year Nr Edinburgh, Scotland, Fri 20 Sept - Sun 22 Sept, £299

About this Event

A weekend garden photography workshop for keen amateurs, horticultural and design professionals wanting to improve their garden and landscape photography skills, led by Garden Photographer of the Year 2018, Andrea Jones .

Andrea will explore her creative process and share her trade secrets over a weekend in one of East Lothian’s most beautiful gardens, Fairnielaw. Expect an inspiring taste of practical photography, theory and image processing. Learn how to deal with the most common challenges a photographer can face; coping with harsh light, making the most of the elements and shooting in cramped spaces.

Fairnielaw is in the conservation village of Athelstaneford in the rolling countryside of East Lothian. The garden provides plenty of opportunities for photography with an avenue with water feature and structural planting, herbaceous borders, mature trees, a small woodland as well as the country paths, stream and surrounding rural landscape.

The group will be limited to 12 people to allow space and time with Andrea for everyone.

Plan for the weekend:

Friday 20th September, 7.30pm

Andrea will give a talk about inspirational gardens and imagery that illustrate garden photography tips and techniques. This evening event will also allow the group to get to know each before our first photography session.

Saturday 21st September

A dawn start, weather dependent, to catch the best early morning light.

During the day, through a combination of further practical photography and workshops, there will be the opportunity to learn about the many different aspects of photographing a garden, including macro photography, digital processing and optimising photos for social media using smartphones. The focus will be tailored to students’ interests.

Andrea will lead the day and be on hand to help students learn how to use their cameras more effectively and provide problem-solving tips.

Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Sunday 22nd September

Dawn start if it was not possible on Saturday, otherwise we will continue photography in the garden from 9.30am.

Andrea will provide individual critiques and assistance while the remainder of the group continue working with in the garden or on image processing.

The workshop will end with a group critique.

Lunch and refreshments.

End: 5pm
