Description

In this five-week cooking workshop series, professional cook and caterer Emily van der Waard will teach home cooks of all experience levels how to bring garden-to-table, seasonal ingredients to South American-inspired summer menus, prepared and presented to bring out the best of their flavors and freshness. Each hands-on session will walk students through a single course, from fresh ingredients to prepping, cooking, plating, and tasting, with a focus on technique and using unconventional summer produce.

Course 4: Dessert will explore bringing the meal to a sweet finish, complete with summer’s bounty of fresh berries, tree fruits, and more. Emily will discuss preparing cold desserts to beat the heat and balance out a hearty meal, as well as how to present them so beautifully you won’t want to eat them!

Students who complete the entire 5 class course will be invited to help prepare and cook a farm-to-table community dinner and movie event. Proceeds will go to support the Chelsea Community Kitchen.

Emily van der Waard has worked in the food service industry for over 15 years, focusing on quality, presentation, and just plain good food. Growing up, Emily was surrounded by a family of restaurant workers, caterers, and farmers. You could say that cooking is in her blood. Her family motto, "share food, food is love" extends from family, to business, and she is dedicated to teaching that "from scratch cooking" brings the family together and feeds our bodies as well as our hearts.
