About this Event

Have you ever wanted to write and record professional sounding songs like your favorite artists?

In Making a Killer Song, Shayna takes you a step beyond the basics of beat making, and helps you create the full product. Whether you already have some basic experience in GarageBand or you are building on the fundamental beat-making concepts tackled in Making Music in GarageBand - Making Beats, go further to master the art of digital production and make a killer song! With experience across a variety of digital music creation software, Shayna breaks down the songwriting process to feel straightforward, painless, and intuitive.

GarageBand makes it easy to write and produce songs with lush arrangements. If you have a Mac laptop or an iPad, you can download GarageBand and start writing immediately using their fun and easy tools.

In addition to all those elements from Making Beats, then dive into important topics like harmony, recording live instruments/voice, MIDI, editing sound files, arranging, using click tracks, and even external hardware options (microphones, audio interfaces, etc.)

By the end of the class, you’ll learn your way around GarageBand to cover your favorite song or write a totally original song. It can be simple using just your voice and piano or you can go full on with beats and harmonies. You will learn the basics of sound design, audio editing, recording and arranging digital instruments/sounds.

If you have some experience in music, Shayna can teach you the techniques to take your songs and ideas to the next level.

There are many online courses for music production out there, but Shayna’s classes will help students develop their individual voices and answer all personal questions to make their songs come to life.

Topics covered include: Recording, song-writing, beat-making, editing, sound designing, mixing, audio engineering, sound effects, digital audio workstations, MIDI instruments, recording MIDI, publishing/sharing songs, composing, audio file management, microphone techniques, multi-track recording, DJing, creating loops and more.

This class is perfect for: This class is perfect if you know how to play an instrument or two and want to learn how to write and produce songs with GarageBand. Attendees will find it helpful to know the very basics of music notation, songwriting elements like pitch, rhythm and understanding of verse/chorus, and have some familiarity with music theory concepts like bass lines and chords. Learning GarageBand will also allow you to move on to other advanced softwares such as Ableton Live or ProTools. This class is also great if you want to learn how to record, edit and mix audio and understand the basics of audio engineering and sound effects. Students must be old enough to have basic computer operating skills and a strong interest in learning songwriting is critical.
