Description

Clinical Workshop: Gaps in the understanding and treatment of anxiety disorders and how to fill them

In this workshop Professor Paul Salkovskis will work from the proposition that “Good and effective therapy is a partnership of two experts seeking to help the service user to reach a better and more flexible understanding of how the world really works”. He will suggest that this view is central to effective Cognitive-behavioural approaches, although it is clearly not confined to this way of working. He will seek to illustrate the importance of blending clinical art and clinical science in the context of achieving, testing and then applying a shared understanding of anxiety related problems. He will seek to clarify ways of balancing transdiagnostic and problem specific approaches in effective therapy and will illustrate some of the issues discussed using video examples of therapy.
