Description

The GAO Materials Chemistry group is pleased to announce the upcoming Symposium in honour of the 75th birthday of Geoffrey Ozin on Saturday, August 25th 2018. We would like to welcome friends and students to celebrate this special moment with our group alumni, and hopefully find inspiration and passion in nanochemistry.

Professor Geoffrey Ozin is considered to be the Father of Nanochemistry. He is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Materials Chemistry and Distinguished University Professor at the University of Toronto. He graduated with a first-class honors degree in Chemistry from King’s College London in 1965 and obtained his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at Oriel College, University of Oxford in 1967. In 1977, he achieved the rank of Full Professor, and Distinguished University Professor in 2004, the highest honor in the University of Toronto. In 2001, he was named a Canada Research Chair in Materials Chemistry for his contributions to science, which he continues to hold today. His awards include the Meldola Medal and Prize, the Rutherford Memorial Medal in Chemistry, and the Albert Einstein World Award of Science. Most recently, in recognition for his innovative and technologically relevant contributions to science, Professor Geoffrey Ozin achieved the ISI Golden h-index of 100.

For the past 49 years, Professor Geoffrey Ozin’s research has been featured on over 50 front cover pages, in journals such as Nature, Nature Materials, Advanced Materials, Advanced Science and Angewandte Chemie. He has also served on the advisory editorial board of some of the top journals in materials chemistry, including Journal of Materials Chemistry, Advanced Materials, RSC Materials Monographs, Chemistry of Materials and Journal of Solid State Chemistry.

The GAO75 Symposium will be held on August 25th, 2018, from 9am to 6pm. Light refreshments will be provided during the coffee breaks. The program includes a list of prestigious professors in materials research, some of which are former members of the Ozin group. The confirmed list of speakers for the symposium are detailed below.
