Gantry Plaza State Park Walking Tour
Date and time
Description
Join us as we co-host a tour that explores the rich historic architecture of Long Island City, led by licensed tour guide and former AIA Queens Chapter President, Bill Gati, RA, AIA.
A loop around Long Island City will reveal some breath-taking views of the historic industrial structures that still exist and have been renovated, across from the Manhattan Skyline. We will see the Pepsi Cola Sign, the Gantrys, the Hunters Point Community Library (not opened yet but nearing construction completion), the many high-rise apartment buildings and the brownstone structures along Vernon Blvd.
As architects, engineers and lovers of history, we can learn so much from the styles, materials and methods of construction. We can also learn how urban planners were able to preserve nature and position structures among some of the most spectacular views and greenery.
AIA Queens will be offering 2 LU/HSW credit
