Event description

Description

Variously depicted as a fire-breathing prehistoric tortoise or a bio-engineered sea turtle capable of outer space flight, Gamera the hard-shelled monster twin to Godzilla leaves a lot to unpack, science-wise. Enter his world, and the world Japanese creature features in general, at the March installment of Final Fridays, “The Science of Flying Space Turtles.”

Starting at 5:30, you can explore turtle-themed exhibit stations while enjoying live music, popcorn, BBQ sliders and drinks — including local craft beers! Museum members get a free popcorn.

At 7pm, we’ll head into the WRAL 3D Theater to watch “Gamera,” the 1965 Japanese daikaiju film about a giant turtle awoken by a nuclear blast. After the show we’ll host Yale Physicist Dr. Savan Kharel to talk about his work investigating string theory and black holes, and how it relates to this month’s film. We hope to see you at Final Fridays!
