Wednesdays 3-5pm : August 2 - August 30 (no class on August 9) for Ages 10+

Over this course, students will gain the tools to create their own RPG (Role Playing Game)/Adventure game. Instructor and game designer Jack Cardin will step you through how to make a video game demo from scratch for a mobile or desktop platform, and assist with any troubleshooting you may have. No coding required!

Media Lab Seats: 6 available, no software or computer required.
Floating Seat: Bring your own laptop with RPG Maker installed. You can download the software here:

CLASS DATES (AUGUST 9, NO CLASS)

August 2: Designing a character and an enemy and battle initiating a battle, and an intro to Events and Switches.

August 16: Intro to Mapping (intuitive design, intro to designing towns and hostile areas)

August 23: Flow, Analysis, Plugin’s preview of the database (analyzing games and theory, storyboarding, plugin installation, and a look at the database)

August 30: Designing a tutorial and Boss (gauging difficulty)


CLASS LAYOUT: Each class will start with an intro, a presentation/example of a Game Trope, studying and applying it, then rigorous testing.



ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Jack Cardin has been interested in many technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, game design, coding, and website curation. In addition running his own business, Jack is passionate about the arts especially painting, photography, and silversmithing. After many years of taking classes and volunteering at Engine, Jack is now on staff as the FabLab Technitian.
