What’s Going On? Contemplative Paintings with Joan Hanley

Tuesday, September 27–Friday, December 9

Spencer Presentation Gallery

Reception: Thursday, October 13 | 4–6 p.m. | Grillo Gallery

Gallery Talk: 5 p.m. | Spencer Presentation Gallery

Created during the Covid era, this selection of Joan Hanley’s paintings explores intimacy and memory through oil paint, pencil, ink, and gouache. These works are the transformation of photos---what the artist refers to as “cell phone memories”---through her physical art materials. Hanley channels her studies of Chinese calligraphy, psychotherapy, and meditation into works that invite viewers to contemplate technology’s role in intimate connections.

This exhibit is in partnership with the Endicott College Expressive Therapies Symposium.
