Description
THE REAL UNREAL: REALISM NOW
by guest Curator, Jane Rainwater
“The Real Unreal: Realism Now” includes four critically acclaimed artists in an exhibition that will run from Tuesday, September 4, through Sunday, October 14, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Art Gallery at Western Connecticut State University. Featuring Mia Brownell of New Rochelle NY, Leeah Joo of Middlebury CT, Jennifer Knaus of Collinsville CT, and Nathan Lewis of Seymour CT, “The Real Unreal: Realism Now” will showcase artworks from each artist demonstrating a more traditional and realistic painting style, but substituting subject matter with more compelling critiques on today’s culture and society. The exhibition is curated by Jane Rainwater, an independent curator, artist and educator.
An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday September 6 in the VPAC Art Gallery on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. An artist talk will be held the same day as the opening reception and will take place in the VPAC Art Gallery towards the end of the evening. Admission for the reception will be free and open to the public; reservations to attend should be made online on the VPAC events web page at www.wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com. The exhibition will be open for public viewing during gallery hours from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The Art Gallery exhibition program is sponsored by the WCSU Department of Art along with support from gallery patrons; donations are encouraged.
